Patty Paillette adds to sunglasses range

9th July 2012  With the arrival of the hot weather, Italian eyewear designer, Patrizia Shelabarger, creator of Patty Paillette, has launched a range of accessories including these fun summer shoes (above left). I absolutely adore the traditional Italian “zoccoli” or clogs – in Italy you see absolutely everyone wearing them from children to ’90 year olds  – I think I bought my first pair, in black, in Sicily in 1991 with a friend; they are super comfortable, easy to walk in, perhaps surprisingly, and perfect for the beach.

Shelabarger’s interpretation of this classic design is, like her eyewear, fun, colourful and a nice quality. The chunky studded leather strap at the front comes in a range of colours including natural leather, orange, bright pink (of course, this is the brand’s signature colour) and a chic blue, tones that are designed to pair beautifully with the specs and sunglasses collection. The Patty Paillette accessory range is now available in the Promenade du Port, Porto Cervo, Sardinia (www.promenadeduport.com), and there is a suggestion that it is going to be coming available online very soon. Other boutiques we spy at Promenade du Port that look exciting are Gallery Fumi (www.galleryfumi.com) and the place to buy a lovingly restored brightly coloured vintage Vespa, Scooter Vintage.  CN

When Paris Meets Los Angeles

Thierry Lasry x Garrett Leight Collaborative Collection, Number 1 launches at Colette

8th July 2012 Just in from eyewear designer Thierry are these great pictures following the launch last week of a collaborative collection by Lasry and designer Garrett Leight. Their new sunglasses edition, ‘Number 1’ was presented at fashion boutique Colette, Paris at the weekend.

The collaboration consists of two styles produced by each designer and inspired by their love for each other’s homes of L.A. and Paris. Its amazing achievement is that the DNA of both brands is clearly identifiable in the collection but, as Lasry explains, they have been cleverly combined into one. Elements such as Leight’s thin classic retro designs with clip-ons and Lasry’s exceptional decorative coloured plastics and signature shapes – such as the chunky front paired with super slim temples – are  brought together to achieve an exciting, totally unique cutting-edge style, produced to amazing quality standards in terms of craftsmanship and detailed finishing.

Summer must-haves

A touch of turquoise

6th July 2012 I  have been wondering about summer colour and the accessories I would choose for a hot Mediterranean vacation and this turquoise leapt out…fashion is inviting us to do bold colour blocking and I can’t think of a colour other than pink that I would rather be wearing. Face à Face, the exclusive Parisian spectacles label has two models that use this colour to great effect – pictured, the Sabba 1, a sweet feminine design with Parisian elegance, and the Sabba 3, a squarish vintage eye shape that catches the quirkiness of the season. Both offer top-class UV protection with their chic sun lenses in contrasting soft brown tones. www.faceaface-paris.com

Jackie Tote, Chameleon Collection, Smythson

Pair this with a Smythson tote – this is the elegant Jackie – in clear-cut colour such as this fresh turquoise with navy, and you’ll start to feel the sunny mood of the season’s fashions. Smythson is known for its luxury stationary collections but more recently, it has been their exquisite leather goods that have attracted great excitement, with their combination of easy practicality, luxury finish and fresh colour. The Smythson iPad cases also comes highly recommended. Shop the full Smythson collection at www.smythson.com CN

Accessory special

Jewelled Sunglasses

4th July 2012 The Italian label Raffaella di Motalban has created a design concept for sunglasses combined with jewellery to create a special work of art that you can wear on your face! I was intrigued when I first read about this idea, and I am told that they are comfortable and easy to wear as well as being beautiful and decorative, the ideal balance between sunglasses and precious jewellery. A sunglass front is combined with a decorated thread of pearls and natural stones, such as coral, topaz or amber, on either side instead of the usual temples, giving the effect of drop earrings. Retail price from approx. 550 euros. Handmade in Italy, and available at Boudoir Galleria Ottica, Venice, Italy – www.boudoir.venice.it, a Venetian optical and accessories boutique, and Florence’s Luisa Via Roma, online at www.luisaviaroma.com CN
