Lemtosh

Moscot Originals

I can’t let Summer 2012 go by without reviewing the Lemtosh, a much spoken about sunglass from New York label, Moscot. The style is hugely popular with celebrities (Johnny Depp famously wears the optical version in tortoise), and is part of the Moscot Originals Collection, based on frames from the company’s archives from 1930 to 1970. The eyewear retains the authenticity of the original frame styles including real glass lenses in the sunglasses, traditional hardware, and lens colours that duplicate the true old school coulors first produced by the Company in the 1940s. The faithfully reproduced Collection is available as ophthalmic eyewear or sunglasses, with or without a prescription, in a variety of frame and lens tint combinations and sizes. Made from gorgeously smooth acetate, this retro frame has a diamond shaped rivet detailing, a key hole bridge and seven barrel hinge. The black is super, it has a shiny finish, but I also recommend the more unusual black/crystal combo which will be a winner in the cool stakes for later in the year – the dual-colour or “split-colour front” – this is what I am calling it, is one trend we expect to grow and grow. www.moscot.com CN

Goodwin

SALT OPTICS

For anyone who loves an aviator and hasn’t got a new one for the Summer, here’s a super choice. The refined Windsor-rim Goodwin is from the American label Salt Optics, a brand that we would love to see more of in Europe. Inspired by the 1920s and 30s, this strong shape has been given a lovely interpretation, using gold titanium combined with a white acetate rim. The brown gradient polarized lenses ensure tip-top protection from harmful UV rays. Handmade in Japan. www.saltoptics.com CN

Selima for June Ambrose

The black and white theme is a strong and long-lasting one in fashion. This sunglass design takes that monochrome look and presents it subtly in layers. It is a design from Selima, created in tandem with the celebrity stylist, June Ambrose. I like the classic easy-to-wear design and choice of punchy colour tones, which include this gorgeous black and blue or a spicy red and black.  www.selimaoptique.com CN

Ipanema

Kosby & Son

Ipanema is amongst the delectable new styles created by Kosby & Son based in Lyons, France. The collaboration of two opticians, Guy Azoulay and Francis Kessous, the recent launch includes designs in acetate and metal, which feature an exclusive “strech & flex” hinge that is the result of five years of research and development. Glossy Beaujolais acetate characterizes Ipanema, and the supple “strech & flex” hinge is subtle and refined.
