Leather is popping up more frequently in the artisan collections. One highlight, where the craftsmanship is sharp and attentive, is by Ottomila, designed in NYC and produced in an Italian workshop; a soft hand-stitched leather wrapped ‘windsor rim’ design, it comes in 3 classical shapes (pictured, 8M1, in army sage). MYKITA / DAMIR DOMA

Rita, and its sister frame Vivien, are inspired by the works of American artist Sterling Ruby. Awash with colours infused into the transparent base material, this version inspires thoughts of light blue puffs of cloud. It’s all about using the acetate material as a blank canvas, and then creating the work of art. A big super feminine oversized statement, Rita is named after 1930s Hollywood legend, Rita Hayworth. Manhattan based fashion designer Zac Posen has an international following of women  – including Kate Winslet and Glenn Close – who adore his feminine aesthetics and sensual cuts in rich, luxurious fabrics. Posen has recently launched a collection of elegant eyewear that captures the essence of his clothing, with dramatic shapes and glamour.
