Lapima’s Vela Collection

A new line from the Brazilian eyewear brand explores inspiration from sailing rafts and their lateen sails typical of Ceará State in north east Brazil

A new line featuring sunglass shapes with statement sculpted structures and a bold colour palette has been launched by Lapima, a luxury eyewear brand from Brazil created by Gisela and Gustavo Assis.

Taking inspiration from the sails, in particular the lateen sail, used by Brazilian rafts, the creative director of Lapima, Gustavo Assis, has created eight new eyewear models that play with duality: on the one hand the rigidity of geometric lines and on the other the malleability and softness of the materials with which they are made.
The defined, almost rigid features of the sails are visible in the two most iconic models in the collection, Antonia and Stella, and are reinterpreted throughout the line. Above: the Vela collection by Lapima, launched Spring 2023

The distinctive style of the surfaces, in organic cellulose acetate, replicates the lightness of fabrics while the colour palette takes its inspiration from the state of Ceará, in the north-eastern region of the country, where the sails of the boats are particularly striking. From the colours of the horizon, and tones of red, orange and amber, to the deep ocean blue of the Atlantic, the frames offer a bold and charismatic Spring/Summer feeling from a brand that has become well known for its quality and unique and imaginative style. www.lapima.com

In the Marrakech collection, the colours are at once evocative of iconic references to the city of Marrakech, and the famous Jardin Majorelle, with its striking cobalt blue and yellow inspired by the desert sands. The Marrakech Collection will be unveiled in a preview this month at Mido 2023. Mido preview: Nina Mûr – exclusively for you

The Madrid based brand, Nina Mûr conforms to a philosophy of slow-luxury, where each frame is made individually and exclusively in their studios. Founder and Creative Director Lorena Serrano Peinado agreed to share a preview of her new sunglasses and glasses designs, before the launch at Mido in Milan which takes place from Saturday (4th February) next week.

Delicacy, strength, high technology and craft. With its focus on conscious production, technological precision, and artistic design and colour, Nina Mûr continues to follow a unique path in eyewear, producing their frames from sheets of birch wood, a natural sustainable wood that is light, flexible and durable – in a host of gorgeous colours.

Launching new models in two collections next week in Milan, Lorena says her new designs focus on timeless classics, with the signature style and distinctive, delicate colour palette of the brand. “The new prescription glasses and sunglasses are based on clean and geometric shapes. Simple shapes which are easy to wear on a daily basis but carefully and beautifully designed.” She says the challenge in the current period has been to make glasses that are powerful but classic and elegant at the same time, offering real versatility and choices for everyone. She looked carefully at ways to revisit the origins of a well designed frame. Above: Lorena Serrano Peinado, photographed by Amanda Sellem exclusively for Eyestylist.com. Bold and geometric shapes in the ‘Constellations’ collections which will launch at Mido, Milan – February 2023

“We have called the sun collection “Constellations”. They are silhouettes with geometric and polished lines that maintain the same thickness throughout their entire surface, in contrast to the ‘heels’ of the temples, stronger and more brutalist, which contrast with the application of extra elements and the change in colour.”

Both the sun and the optical collections play with geometries and are based on timeless and slow fashion with a carefully studied design. ‘Constellations’ joins the points of the geometries through uniform lines. “It is a nod to family bonds, says Lorena. The styles are designed for all types of people without ceasing to be very special pieces that play with contrasts in colour and different weights in the frame.”
Preview “Mido”: Nina Mûr will show new optical frames described as “timeless classics”
The line of optical frames is described as an aesthetic exercise. “We have played with geometrics lines to show that a pair of glasses with lots of design work can be worn easily and elegantly.”
Asked to relate any news from their work in the last months, the Nina Mûr team told us they have recently moved their headquarters to a larger and more diaphanous space very close to the centre of Madrid. Lorena explained: “The new studio/workshop offers a much better space for our production needs..for the new year it will allow us to have more opportunities for an easier development of our research and innovation that we like so much.”
In this period has continued its research in volumes and the application of new materials combined with our classic materials like wood. Some of these developments are still in the experimental phase and will be unveiled in future collections.

Nina Mûr will exhibit at MIDO in Milan and 100%, London. Find out more at www.ninamur.com
