Christian Roth

This expressive frame with its dramatic, geometric shape is also known as Full Volume, and it’s easy to understand why! The king of Op Art, Victor Vasarely, a Hungarian-French artist, recognised for his optical illusion art and sculpture, was the inspiration for this superb design by Christian Roth and Eric Domege.  As a wearer of ophthalmic frames, I especially like the beautiful flow of handmade black acetate, which is then given additional depth with double sided laminated black on crystal, providing a three dimensional effect.  It’s an elegant frame, exuding refinement and beauty.  A must for devotées of chic eyewear! It’s also available in delicious colours of purple on blue, honey on beige, and Havana on transparent green. www.christian-roth.com JG

LF Luxe 31

Linda Farrow Luxe

I love the bamboo trend, and here’s a great frame from the luxury collection by the UK’s Linda Farrow, which uses bamboo temples. The frame pictured here has a graduated black to clear plastic front teamed with clear lenses, but there is also flexibility to fit the style as a sunglass. The bamboo sides are quite chunky, making a feature of the texture of the material and producing a clever contrast with the smooth front of the design. Other colours I like in this are the tortoiseshell frame with gradient sun lenses which match with the natural bamboo tones. Linda Farrow Luxe uses titanium finishings plated in 24-carat gold, another sophisticated detail which shows the attention paid to every small part of the design. CN

Henry 5/LO-0909

Lotho Eyewear

Lotho is a recent addition to the French eyewear scene. Artistic principles, flawless workmanship and strong, individual character are the principles of Japanese designer Coco. I’m particularly fond of Henry, shown above, with its unique, chic round contours, in deliciously smooth acetate.  The frames are lightweight, while providing a sense of substance and durability.  Great colours too – the tortoise and mustard shown plus black, crystal, and a variety of confetti colours on black acetate.  Lotho frames are available in Paris at Hervé Domar Opticians 48, rue Dauphine, 75006, and Le Bon Marché. www.lotho.fr JG

Orion

Lindberg

The Kid/Teen frames from Lindberg enable youngsters to have a positive eyewear experience, with their ultra-light, flexible and adjustable designs, that fit comfortably on a child’s face.  The architectural concept of Orion is an exceptionally high-quality frame that is nickel-free and hypoallergenic.  Although very stylish and extremely lightweight, the frames are strong and sturdy, and can withstand virtually anything. Over the years, Lindberg has amassed 47 design prizes for their imaginative, innovative frames. JG

Factory One

Anne et Valentin

Specs with round eye shapes have been enjoying a revival and continue to do so this Spring, and this pretty shape from the French label Anne et Valentin shows how fun and contemporary they can be. All my choices this month are based on the classic round vintage shape (also known as a P3!)  that has an intellectual yet playful design and works just as well for women as for men.

The Factory models from Anne et Valentin are inspired by Andy Warhol and his New York Factory studio. This particular acetate design has a round shape that is slightly flattened at the top; the design has a nice handmade quality, adding to the vintage note. Colour choices include black, a rich red and a lovely classic tortoise. CN
