Jacky 11

Derome Brenner

I have discovered a lot about the new collection by Derome Brenner thanks to Le Caribou Opticiens in Paris, who have a great blog of their own (www.lecaribou-opticiens.fr) Jacky 11 is a gorgeous example of what this French label do so well – multilayered acetate in pretty, multi-coloured combinations. This one features turtle, light brown, crystal, plain red and transparent red in one frame! Jacky 11 is a woman’s shape, and one of a family of styles that tend to have large proportions inspired by volumes and sizes of the 1970s. As one of the designers says, “with Jacky 11, we have worked on the square aspect bringing in a slight suggestion of the butterfly.” The frames are 100% made in the Sologne region of France. Every frame undergoes 60 different steps of production…to create the lamination, the sculpture of the material and to achieve interesting volumes and colours. CN

Blue Magic Eye

Since Guya Montermini and Ciro Tugnoli launched their eyewear collection several years ago, I’ve been following their design evolution with great interest. This season, they have launched another chic collection in must-have colours. Their creative frames, with great attention to details, includes this bold cobalt blue and dark grey design, with the colour combination a Blue Magic Eye exclusive. Matt acetate is contrasted with gold metal, and the frame shape is deftly sculpted into modern retro. Refined style, with elegant impact. www.bluemagiceye.com JG

Rancho Deluxe

Jono Hennessy

This one has really caught my attention, it’s a highly accomplished Limited Edition design and we are very excited to have seen it this weekend! Inspired by vintage belt buckles from the Wild West, the textured patterning was hand drawn by designer Jono specifically to create the frame….a crafstman then spent two weeks hand carving the mould for Rancho Deluxe. The label has other textured metal designs as well as this extraordinary example…including “Dragon Lady” which features dragon scales on the edges and temples in turquoise green and “Snake Eyes”, a textured snake skin catseye in matt black with yellow sun lenses (it’s totally awesome if you are into the snake trend). A collection that is a treat for the eyes. In the UK, the Rancho will be available soon from The-I site Optician in Hammersmith (UK) www.thei-site.com CN

The Zolman

Moscot Eyewear

The New York Yankees, The Big Apple, The Empire State – both nicknames – and Frank Sinatra belting I Love New York are iconic symbols of the American city. To that list can be added Moscot Eyewear, the Manhattan based company that has been producing its own frame icons for over a century. The Zolman (above) in flesh acetate is from the new collection, featuring the key attribute for the autumn season – the burgeoning trend for perfectly round shapes. Traditional values and craftsmanship are reflected in every frame. This cool and classic design has no exposed hardware, and a three-barrel hinge.  Moscot Eyewear is available throughout Europe.  Visit www.moscot.com for stock lists. JG

Voyage Voyage

Lunettes Kollektion

Described as a classic panto, the elegant model Voyage Voyage is sleek and streamlined with a finely curved temple so that front and arm merge seamlessly into one. The colour choices are an instant draw – foggy grey, smoky asphalt, honey and tortoise are included in the line…each one offering a chic yet pared down look that I believe will work perfectly for the coming season (for those who love a minimal approach to vintage).

Lunettes Kollektion frames are packaged in handmade boxes, by the traditional Berlin-based card and paper company Ernst Ließ. The frames are handmade by traditional, family-owned producers in small batches. The materials used are described as the “finest” available. An unpretentious, high-quality collection which we hope to see a lot more of. CN
