Los Santos, model Pilar

Theo by Tim Van Steenbergen

This collaboration never disappoints and always goes on my list of top styles. I love the imaginative use of colour by Tim Van Steenbergen, inspired by the Spanish fiestas. The fronts in acetate contrast with the plastic or metal temples. These amazing sunglasses are fitted with Zeiss sun lenses, a very high quality lens that gives serious protection for the eyes. Polarized lenses are also on offer in the collection. Pilar in pink has the exotic Spanish embroidery design on the upper temple and is fabulously feminine with its sensuous eyebrow curve. An oustanding fashion accessory, all the fun and comfort typical of Theo’s frames, wrapped up in great fashion from TVS! CN

Eco 1105

Modo Eyewear

The Eco Collection from Modo is a good choice if you are wanting easy retro and I like the intentions of this brand: the frames are made from recycled metal and plastic, and for every frame sold, the company has committed to planting a tree. The collection carries an UL Environment Certification, validating that the products are made from a minimum of 95% recycled stainless steel and/or plastic, without any compromise in quality. With the One Frame One Tree initiative, for each pair of Eco frames purchased, Eco plants one tree together with Trees for the Future, a non-profit organization that has been helping communities around the world plant trees since 1989. Eco also created a system that allows customers to donate their unwanted frames to charities helping people with poor vision in developing areas of the world.  The box also includes an easy to use mail-in recycling kit. The packaging consists of a box and a case. The box is made of recycled paper and using soy ink for the printing. The case is made of RPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate) which is made out of recycled soda bottles. www.eco-optics.com CN

Orgreen

Colour is a dominant theme throughout opththalmic collections this season, and this unusual combination from Danish company Orgreen is so effective. The artisanal spirit of the frame features a graduated colour scheme of black, taupe, and turquoise, in a stylish flat top design – another prominent trend. The contemporary design assures this is a great choice for a variety of face shapes. www.orgreen.dk JG

Lucas De Staël, Paris

Founder of Paris based spectacles company Undostrial, Lucas de Staël has launched his own eponymous label, after two years of detailed research and development. The designs in the first collection, Once Upon a Time, play with organic materials such as wood and leather, placed together with cold stainless steel. As the designer explains, “As if worked by a silversmith, the frames perfectly balance flexibility and lightness, classicism and purism. Each frame is comfortable and as pretty as a jewel!” I saw these for the first time in Munich last month and found them very exciting in terms of the way in which the two types of material, organic and metal, are combined….11 shapes, 7 leather colours and 5 wood options are available. www.lucasdestael.com CN

Lindberg 1135

Acetate and titanium unite in Lindberg’s sleek frame with an acetate front and titanium temples. Technically, this design is a little gem, with the titanium bridge integrated into the acetate bridge. This allows the frame to be angled to follow the contours of the wearer’s face. The integrated bridge also has nose pad arms, so the frame is 100% adjustable, insuring comfort and stability. The colour selection is lovely – brown and sand (above) black with orange, and a nautical effect in red with blue. www.lindberg.com JG
