Pau Hana

Maui Jim

I was impressed by this style when I saw it in January in Munich. Pau Hana is one of Maui Jim’s trendier shapes for 2012 with its cool colour choices and design with uber fashion key hole nose, yet it comes with all the tech features you might expect from this label. A unisex shape, the style is offered in black with dark brown and neutral grey lenses; Tokyo tortoise with Maui Rose lenses and honey with HCL Bronze lenses. The Maui Gradient lenses are dark at the top, and gradually lighter moving down the lens. This means that an appropriate amount of light is allowed to filter through certain areas, while less light comes through where protection is paramount. CN

Mainstage

Jeremy Tarian

Paris based Jeremy Tarian is inspired by the vitality and vibrancy of New York City for his new collection – frames that simmer with the energy and edginess for which the city is renowned. Brown and black combine handsomely in Mainstage (above) in an acetate design that exudes strength and character. It’s also striking in black and red, or black with chrome. www.jeremytarian.com JG

Alexander Wang AW14C2

Linda Farrow/Alexander Wang collaboration

An aviator that has caught my eye, partly because this shape defines a key mood for next year, but also because this one adds a decorative touch to the metal base with a patterned acetate. An American fashion designer of extraordinary repute who has won countless awards including, in 2011, GQ’s best new menswear designer of the year, Wang’s sunglasses have an edge that send fashion editors into a frenzy…his “extreme” cat eye sunglasses with metal corners were, and still are, a bit of a cult piece for girls. It will be very interesting to see if this one, or any of its sister shapes in the designer’s S/S 2012 range produced with the UK’s Linda Farrow, gets the same buzz this year. Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta is the venerable Italian brand that makes gorgeous bags with intricate leather weaving. The sunglasses are gorgeous too — the new collection for 2012 includes these lovely acetate sunglasses with elegantly sculptured, voluminous temples. The design is highlighted with a rounded shape that is flattering and glamorous. Details are unique and individual – a motif on the metal core inside the temples, plus five pins on the temples, and a small butterfly on the inside tips. Irresistible! www.bottegaveneta.com JG

Hadid

Cassius Eyewear

This is a first appearance for New Zealand’s Cassius Eyewear on Eyestylist. Hadid is a classic flat-top sunglass style which is one of the signature shapes in the Cassius sun collection. As designer Jason Ng explains, “I am drawn to modernism: clean, linear, timeless design and work that is free from unnecessary decoration. Cassius Eyewear is a reflection of my methodical nature, and the way I see the world and everything in it.” This is a brand that prioritises cool, on-trend styling, but without any compromise on essential quality or comfort. For example, Hadid, released in homage to architect Zaha Hadid,  is made from premium layered acetate and finished with hand-polished lenses. 300 pieces per colour are available through Cassius Eyewear stockists. Colours include: black, cortado and this lovely deep mahogany pictured. Available to buy online at www.cassiuseyewear.com CN
