Accessories of the season: Diffuser Tokyo

The Japanese brand adds cases using a soft, durable ‘tech suede’ to ever-developing collection of accessories

Diffuser Tokyo has developed new eyewear case designs for the season in a combination of artificial suede and natural leather. The attractive unisex ‘sacoche’ style – which has been designed to be worn around the neck, is designed to carry eyewear, accessories or even a smart phone. The design features a strong, adjustable multi-colored cord (125 cm in length) and comes in six colours including soft pastels and natural tones of black and brown.

The latest more traditional eyewear case to be released by Diffuser Tokyo has a classical shape with front fastening and is made from a combination of leather and ‘ultrasuede’, a high-quality artificial suede which is used in car interiors and bag and shoe design; this material has the advantage that it does not mark easily. The stylish design comes in two sizes, to suit a wide selection of typical frame sizes, including oversized. Find out more at www.diffuser-tokyo.com

Eyestylist Exclusive: Woow Eyewear adds bio-acetate

‘Be Green’ is the new message at Woow Eyewear as the brand introduces biodegradable materials on its 10th anniversary

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2023, the team at Woow Eyewear has revealed to Eyestylist that its latest project is a release of iconic and quintessential concepts from the last 10 years, produced in biodegradable acetate – a first departure in this collection. The specific material – produced by Mazzucchelli – has been selected by the Woow Eyewear design team on the basis of its verifiable provenance and its content which they explain includes cellulose powder from wood, and plasticizer (with bio based content). The designers Claire Ferreira and Marianne Dezes who shared a preview of the collection with Eyestylist at Mido 23, told us that they have worked hard to produce a striking display of colours and colour concepts in the new material, giving the collection radiance and style.

Feminine and feline: Come On by Woow Eyewear is one of the cat’s eye shapes in the line

Trendy highlights in the colour schemes include a graduated effect for the Come On style, combinations of bright tones which transform into gradient crystals in the model Marry Me and dazzling colour blocked tones using hues of bright pink or bold blues and greens for models Roof Top and New Rules. The classy re-edition shapes include designs for men and women, well known amongst fans of Woow, and featuring their catchy names embedded in temple tips, in customary Woow style! Article One: expanding the ACTIVE collection

For sports, this is one of few collections to merge tech with a qualitative vintage-inspired style

Article One is extending its one of a kind ACTIVE collection which delivers performance eyewear with an artisanal approach and style. The US label has added three distinct styles, bringing its athletic category to 12 models. In line with its ethos to challenge traditional performance eyewear aesthetics, the new Avalon, Bancroft and Hoffman sunglasses have the appearance of fine quality lifestyle frames, but are engineered with innovative, technical features needed for sports or outdoor pursuits.

Avalon from Article One – performance details are built-in

The new Avalon, Bancroft and Hoffman frames include the technical features of Article One’s entire ACTIVE Collection, engineered with hexetate – a patented acrylic resin that allows for improved flexibility, enhanced shape memory and added durability – and constructed with CR39 polarized lenses with backside anti-reflective coating to block 100% of UVA/UVB rays and prevent road glare. The frames also boast the brand’s signature adjustable nose pads, rubber temple tips and spring hinges.

Each of the brand new styles has three frame options ranging from the classic tortoise, modern crystal and several patterns that create depth and texture. Paired with a range of protective polarized and non polarized lenses in eye-catching colours like pink ombre, gold, deep blue, grey or black, technical perks also include the backside anti-reflective coating to block 100% of UVA/UVB rays and provide effective protection from glare on the road. Trend alert: rim effects

Spectacular rims with playful colour combos are one of the most creative directions in eyewear for Spring…

Designers have explored the creative potential of layers and rims this season, with fronts which take the bold theme to new heights, playing with contrast and colourful combinations. From high fashion collections to small batch series, the trend for impactful, double and triple rims has brought more individuality and freshness of style still and a 3 dimensional sculptural quality that is beautiful and flattering on the face. Above: from the Marni sunglasses collection by RETROSUPERFUTURE, Ulawun Vulcano Blue. This style offers real visual impact, with the contrast in shape and colour and beautiful signature tones of the fashion brand combined with artistry – www.retrosuperfuture.com

Madison by J.F. Rey – from the oversize series – lilac and a light tone of crystal taupe

The Madison is oversized with strong ties to the look of the 1970s square designs. It presents dynamic colour combinations on the front of the frame, using fashion tones of lilac – a tone that is similar to the trendy digital lavender, and luminous gradient tones – in the case above, a crystal taupe. Despite the thicknesses of the acetate material, the frame has a lightweight feel and comfortable, wearable shape. www.jfrey.fr

Exciting colour combos in the Gadabout from OGI Eyewear – a highlight in the brand’s Spring collection 2023

The Gadabout model from OGI Eyewear explores volumes, layering and linear effects with its bold front – described as a “harlequin shape”.  Three colours are revealed on the front by means of the ingenious layering and “cutting” of the acetate and stainless steel shapes which overlap one another. Model Duude in this collection has a similar accent on the rim design and playful effect of bright colour combos. Find the models in the collection at www.ogieyewear.com
