Concept store: Indice Vision, Italy

With a taste for modern design, well-planned contemporary fittings and new ideas, 27-year-old Nicolo Plebani says the new Indice store is hard to explain without mentioning every single detail that has gone into the final store design concept. “To my colleague Giovanni and I, Indice represents our passion for design, research and innovation, expressed through the world of optics”. The shop is, needless to say, far removed from the traditional optician’s store, and intentionally so.

Indice: open spaces with designer lighting

Approximately 200m squared and split on two floors, this exemplary eyewear destination is  located next to the imposing Cathedral of Brescia, a city located in the Northern Italian region of Lombardy. The setting is eye-catching and original with focus on a personal appreciation of design and creativity – a stunning environment for an eyewear experience and the ideal showcase for talented independent designers.

Silver leaf, iron and glass tables, and refined display cases and shelves, which rest on mirror carpets are some of the ad hoc elements in the modern space created for shoppers who appreciate fine design. Fittings also include Eames Vitra chairs, Afteroom stools and a purple armchair by Albini Cassina and the space is lit with Flos spotlights and lamps, further embellished with Poseidon Cattellan Italia chandeliers.

Indice: industrial elegance and focus on design details

For eyewear choices, the store is equally avant-garde. The first collections available instore include Kuboraum, Cazal, SUPER (a special edition was launched by the store in June), and other equally individual lines, designed to give shoppers a different choice of products that combine extraordinary quality with good looks and a story  far beyond the ordinary. Indice Vision is a new concept store by Nicolo Plebani and Giovanni Comotti – Address: Via Giulio Bevilacqua 7, Brescia – www.indice.visionCN

Musique et esprit Marseille concerts

France flourishes with summer concerts – classical, jazz, dance, chamber music, and electronic performances. In August, a new event joins the prestigious roster – Musique et Esprit (Music and Spirit), founded by the renowned flutist Gabriel Fumet, (top image) which takes place at the Abbaye Saint-Victor de Marseille, a late Roman monastic structure. Fumet is from a musical family dynasty. His grandfather – Dynam Victor Fumet – was a prolific, accomplished composer; organist; and pianist. And…he had a passion for singing. Gabriel’s father – Raphaël – was also a composer and played several different musical instruments. Gabriel inherited this musicality, and at a young age, started to play the flute. HIs father would compose short pieces for Gabriel to play, and later he entered the elite Paris Conservatory.

Fumet’s career has seen him perform from Salzburg to Saint Petersburg. In Marseille, where his performance is 7th August, his oeuvre will include music from Bach to Rachmaninov, in conjunction with organist Jean Galard, from Beauvais Cathedral. Other concerts will feature the Saint Petersburg Choir, Renaissance music by the Energeia Ensemble, and the Sartène Men’s choir from Corsica. The port city of Marseille is a lovely Mediterranean destination. This summer presents a wonderful opportunity to blend relaxation with exceptional concerts by renowned performers. Let your heart soar! Concert dates and additional information – Musique et Esprit et La Toison d’Art www.latoisondart.com JG

Jono Hennessy in Australia’s Hall of Fame

Jonathan Hennessy Sceats – known in the eyewear world as Jono Hennessy – has been inducted into the Design Institute of Australia’s Hall of Fame, at the National Gallery of Victoria. Jono’s father was an optician, so he grew up watching his dad perform eye tests and fitting fashion bespoke optical designs for his clients. Like father, like son…Jono developed a love for artisan eyewear and inherited the same devotion to quality and workmanship.

Jono Hennessy Limited Edition Sunglasses

In the 1980’s, Jono began designing under his own label, and was a creative innovator, and soon the frames became the number one brand in Australia. A combination of an eccentric flair for life, passion for his country – which often inspire his designs – and always supporting the collaboration between independent designers and independent optometrists around the world, Hennessy has made significant contributions to Australian and international design.

Jono Hennessy edit: Quality, style, comfort and fit: Model 8432

Surf’s Up! Sunzal by Orgreen Optics

Orgreen Optics majestically transposes the beauty and skill of surfing into elegant eyewear with the launch of Surf’s Up! Surfing represents not only a sport; but also a way of life, structured around the recurring rise of the tide, and the eternal breaking of the waves. World Surfer Gerry Lopez noted: “Surfing is attitude dancing.” The aesthetic universe around the surfing culture is the inspiration for the five optical styles – three female and two male designs. The frame names are derived from the iconic surfing locations from New Zealand’s hidden Manu Bay to El Salvador’s tropical Sunzal. The timeless silhouettes embody classic minimalism in Japanese titanium, hand-crafted to ensure the highest quality and durability. Exciting new colourations add to the finesse of the frames. Sunzal (above) for women is bold and  curvy. Explore additional Surf’s Up designs at www.orgreenoptics.com JG
