SALT. by Blick pop-up store, Rotterdam

An innovative pop-up by SALT. Optics and Blick Brillen has opened in Rotterdam

With a history of working together – that dates back 11 years – SALT. Optics and Blick Brillen have a close and evolving relationship. Their latest collaboration is a carefully designed pop-up store in the heart of the city of Rotterdam, designed to present  SALT.’s Optical Collection, and fully branded to reflect the style of the Californian brand.

Shop Owner Mike Portier told Eyestylist: “The pop-up represents SALT. so, in this case, we worked on a clean design with natural accents. We asked SALT. to choose the colours, visuals and signing; not only in the shop but also on the window and facade because it should be their showcase. We try to lead every customer through the pop-up store, which is interesting because it very often feels like a different world.”

“SALT. is a timeless but fashionable collection. Some models, like the Brower, have been around for years but still work. The pure design, combined with high quality materials and construction make it a perfect collection for customers who value stylish eyewear that last for multiple seasons….” Mike Portier, Blick

Launch event for the new pop-up by Blick: a chance to experience the quality and style of SALT. sunglasses and optical frames

Blick is well known for its original events with eyewear brands. Portier told us: “The 50 square meters of Blick make my world as a shop owner very limited and since I’m easily bored, I do need fresh impulses from time to time! Normally the collections we work with have to adapt to Blick as a brand. In the pop-up store, though Blick then has to adapt to the collection as a brand. This fresh energy very often also affects what’s happening in the main store.”

Blick Brillen (main store), Pannekoekstraat 37A – Rotterdam, ZH, 3011 LC The Netherlands – the temporary pop-up is open during the same hours as the main store. www.saltoptics.com / www.blickbrillen.nl

The premium Italian eyewear brand Movitra has released a preview of its new designs, which fuse luxury and technical details with a precision-focused, minimalist refinement. Model Joe by Movitra: a brand new entry in the Ultralight collection at Movitra – the frame has visible hardware and ZEISS sun lenses

In the Ultralight collection, the Milan brand highlights the new model Joe, a light, aviator-inspired design with a square eye shape, produced in 11R51 stainless steel – a steel that offers high tensile strength and lightness as well as a modern, minimal design. The frame is available in two versions, with a galvanic finish and colours of Gun Metal/Rose Gold and Flash Electric Gradient lenses and Gun Metal/Light Gun. This model feature a new crown screw with anti-unscrewing counternut on the hinge.

Movitra models all feature the brand’s patented rotation system, a one-of-a-kind feature that allows the frame to rotate on itself in such a way that the lenses are protected when the frame is not in use. To find out more about Movitra, visit their website at www.movitra.it

Mido preview: RES/REI’s multi-layer colorations

The models Charleston and Colosso at RES/REI are among the Italian brand’s current collection, where colourations are energetic and fresh, often combining several surprising tones

RES/REI is well known for its elegant acetate frames and artistic palette of colours and delicate transparencies. Model Colosso, in their Sculptures Collection is an example of that style, expressed with enhanced three-dimensionality by means of layering the acetate. Above: model Colosso by RES/REI in the Sculptures Collection, one of a series of frames inspired by the great Italian sculptors of the past – RES/REI has developed custom colour acetates that, where the thickness of the frame changes, the colour fades from one tone to another

Vivid red and blue tones with tortoise: Charleston in the Dancers collection by RES/REI

The model Charleston offers a completely different way to wear colours in combination. The frame has a refined hexagonal structure where the thicker upper rim runs along the entire length of the glasses: it’s a frame that glows with individuality and style. For more information about RES/REI’s latest styles for 2023, visit the new collections on view at www.resrei.com

Mido preview: Nina Mûr – exclusively for you

The Madrid based brand, Nina Mûr conforms to a philosophy of slow-luxury, where each frame is made individually and exclusively in their studios. Founder and Creative Director Lorena Serrano Peinado agreed to share a preview of her new sunglasses and glasses designs, before the launch at Mido in Milan which takes place from Saturday (4th February) next week.

Delicacy, strength, high technology and craft. With its focus on conscious production, technological precision, and artistic design and colour, Nina Mûr continues to follow a unique path in eyewear, producing their frames from sheets of birch wood, a natural sustainable wood that is light, flexible and durable – in a host of gorgeous colours.

Launching new models in two collections next week in Milan, Lorena says her new designs focus on timeless classics, with the signature style and distinctive, delicate colour palette of the brand. “The new prescription glasses and sunglasses are based on clean and geometric shapes. Simple shapes which are easy to wear on a daily basis but carefully and beautifully designed.” She says the challenge in the current period has been to make glasses that are powerful but classic and elegant at the same time, offering real versatility and choices for everyone. She looked carefully at ways to revisit the origins of a well designed frame. Above: Lorena Serrano Peinado, photographed by Amanda Sellem exclusively for Eyestylist.com. Bold and geometric shapes in the ‘Constellations’ collections which will launch at Mido, Milan – February 2023

“We have called the sun collection “Constellations”. They are silhouettes with geometric and polished lines that maintain the same thickness throughout their entire surface, in contrast to the ‘heels’ of the temples, stronger and more brutalist, which contrast with the application of extra elements and the change in colour.”

Both the sun and the optical collections play with geometries and are based on timeless and slow fashion with a carefully studied design. ‘Constellations’ joins the points of the geometries through uniform lines. “It is a nod to family bonds, says Lorena. The styles are designed for all types of people without ceasing to be very special pieces that play with contrasts in colour and different weights in the frame.”
Preview “Mido”: Nina Mûr will show new optical frames described as “timeless classics”
The line of optical frames is described as an aesthetic exercise. “We have played with geometrics lines to show that a pair of glasses with lots of design work can be worn easily and elegantly.”
Asked to relate any news from their work in the last months, the Nina Mûr team told us they have recently moved their headquarters to a larger and more diaphanous space very close to the centre of Madrid. Lorena explained: “The new studio/workshop offers a much better space for our production needs..for the new year it will allow us to have more opportunities for an easier development of our research and innovation that we like so much.”
In this period has continued its research in volumes and the application of new materials combined with our classic materials like wood. Some of these developments are still in the experimental phase and will be unveiled in future collections.

Nina Mûr will exhibit at MIDO in Milan and 100%, London. Find out more at www.ninamur.com

Mido preview: bold & bright at Blackfin

The titanium brand continues to introduce bold statement designs in the Blackfin One line with a close eye on intense yet wearable colours

Italian titanium eyewear brand, Blackfin has opened the year with a new collection, proposing strong silhouettes, and bright colours and colour combinations. Comprising six new styles, the collection colours have been selected to highlight the contours of the metal material, and to explore unexpected combinations and hues not previously seen in the collection. Highlights include the runway-inspired colours, such as yellow ochre and lavender, as well as army green and cobalt blue tones. Daring with colour, in line with current trends: the new campaign from Blackfin for Spring/Summer 2023

Model Deauville by Blackfin

Among the models, the classic squared Deauville features bridge and end pieces in relief and contrasting colour where a new metallic mix is observed; the combinations include yellow ochre paired with purple (above), purple with brown, vintage rose with blue, or green on green.

Model Waterville by Blackfin

The Waterville frame has a thick rim and geometric shape cut from a single block of milled titanium to yield a 2.5 mm top rim layered over a 2 mm rim. The bi-level design is underscored by impressive combinations of navy blue/orange, army green/cobalt blue and yellow/grey (above) colorways. The full selection of models will be revealed to visitors of the Mido international optical event next weekend, taking place in Milan, Italy (trade-only event). Find out more at www.blackfin.eu
