Blaze

Beam Collection, Kirk Originals

Not new, but definitely a classic from the British KO label, Blaze is one style that will turn heads…the Beam collection is psychedelic and this is because the frames are made entirely from acrylic, which polishes up to shine like glass. It has a completely unique style, and is quite a change from traditional acetate if you want something that is statement-making and light and comfy. Kirk Originals launched their Beam Collection at Silmo in 2011 to celebrate their 20th Anniversary in 2012; it looks very fresh, and the amethyst colour of this model is very much on-trend as we look ahead to Autumn/Winter. 6 styles are available in the range, and they are retailing at around Euros 420. Paulino Spectacles

A super newcomer to eyewear that I am following carefully, Paulino Spectacles has a number of cool looking acetates (high-quality from the Italian specialists in acetate, Mazzucchelli) and I have picked out this one which demonstrates a few things of note. First, I like the combination of transparent blue with a more grainy wood-like neutral toned acetate…the horizontal two-tone front is a massive, massive trend this year (and next), but this one is done in a careful way so it seems that the colour is graduated. As they say themselves, their spectacles collection pays particular attention to the changing tones and luminosity of acetate.  It is a very delicate colour proposal and I wish that I had the right complexion for it! Paulino Spectacles are based in Portugal and you can read more about them here: http://paulinospectacles.com/paulino_en.html CN

Colour codes

1st August 2012 Colour is an integral part of the eyewear experience. And the relation between the shape and the colour of a design is what gives it its character and uniqueness. Quite simply, colourful sunglasses and opticals speak volumes about the person wearing them, add fun and eccentricity, and allow a special expression for the wearer…eyewear designers have long been producing creative colour ideas, combinations and patterned proposals, it’s just that at the moment colour is such a big story in fashion that there is even more opportunity to wear it across the seasons…from the graduated shading of a design in the Lovely Sun Collection by REIZ (see www.eyestylist.com/2012/05/surya/), to the seductive transparent acetates by Anne et Valentin, or the feisty, fashionable, colour-blocked designs at Jono Hennessy, today’s rich colour proposals are here to spice up your everyday apparel, and personal image!

But don’t feel you have to wear the colour of the moment. Choose what you like and what suits your personal style; if you prefer classic, stick to tortoise, classic dark tones and neutrals, as these are always elegant and add a refined finishing touch. If you love brights, check the most flattering ones for your skin tones and face shape, and consider combination colours – spectacles with a two-tone front is a strong look that is trending – if you have the desire to broaden your colour horizons even further. CN
